A GOOD PATTERN 1853/74 SOCKET BAYONET FOR THE MARTINI HENRY RIFLE, issued 12/73, with 17 1/4 in. triangular steel blade fullered on all sides, ricasso marked with Broad Arrow and 'W D', plus dates of '12/73' and '5. 74', together with its black leather scabbard with brass fittings, frog stud marked '571', muzzle ring frozen, brass scabbard fittings painted black, stitching solid, these were conversions of the exiting .577" calibre bayonets bushed to fit the Martini Henry rifle and was the standard issue for other ranks until the introduction of the Pattern 1876 Common Socket bayonet, 21 in. overall
